Food trucks are officially a big deal now. You can go from California, to Texas and all the way to New York in order to find a surplus of some of the greatest kitchens on wheels. I can honestly say that during my time in the food truck business I have found some of the best food I have ever tasted in the strangest parts of town thanks to a new wave of chefs starting their own mobile businesses. It also seems that in just about any list you find that list the best food truck cities in the country there is always a city from Texas. Today I will focus on Houston Texas. If you go to Google at this very moment and type in “#1 city in America” you will be surprised to find that Houston has risen on the top of the list as the fastest growing city in the country. It is also still one of the most diverse cities in the country as well, according to Wallet Hub.com . With all this being said you can rest assured that the food truck scene is exploding here in this city as well. Today I won’t talk about the usual trucks we hear about every day rather I will talk about the up and coming trucks here in Houston. Here are 10 Food Trucks to Visit in Houston. They are in no particular order.
Wokker Texas Ranger–
The words “Brisket Egg Rolls” should get your attention all on their own. Wokker Texas Ranger is an ingenious combination of Texan and Asian food. Founded by owners Man, Marco and Tony. Wokker has made quite the impact in a short amount of time here in Houston. Their brilliant cuisine along with their magnetic enthusiasm are what have catapulted them to the forefront of the Houston Food Truck scene. They bring their own crowd every where they go as well as their mouth watering dishes. Whether you try their “Brisket Pad Thai” or their “Shaken Beef”, Wokker Texas Ranger is sure to redefine what a fusion food truck is for you in no other way. Be sure to follow them on Facebook to find out where they will be this week!
Casian King–
Ah yes. Another brilliant Asian fusion in one of the most diverse cities in the country. The clever name Casian King was decided after the decision to combine Asian and southern Cajun food. They have quickly made their footprint here in Houston and have quickly created a large following after only one year. Casian King truly represents the melting pot that is Houston Texas by creating a very unlikely combination from two completely different cultures. I highly recommend their Kimchi Fries and Korean BBQ w/ Rice.
The Sauerkraut Food Truck–
Coming all the way from Wiesbaden, Germany; Chef Eric and his family have brought the beautiful combination of German/ Texan food to Houston. They offer a German style Bratwurst, Schnitzel Sandwhiches, Hamburgers, Spatzle, Soups, fries and more all with a Texas twist! I highly recommend their Currywurst which is brat topped with chef-crafted curry ketchup. Their “Schnitzel Meet Ruben” is also a must have on their menu!
Nom Mi St –
This is perhaps one of my favorite food trucks in the city of Houston and definitely one of the most established ones I have seen. The owner Lam runs his truck like clock work and you can always count on him to make sure his food is consistent. Nom Mi St. is a delicious combination of Vietnamese and Mexican food. My personal favorite has got to be his Vienamese quesadilla along with the classic Banh Mi Sandwhich. You also cannot go wrong with their vietnamese tacos!
LunchBox –
My only problem with Lunchbox is trying to figure out if I like the owners or their food more. They are by far one of the most enthusiastic bunch I have ever met and have been graced with culinary genius. Absolutely everything I have ever tried from them has been an explosion of flavor at every bite. They have the best “Cubano” sandwhich in town along with a blend of South Indian ,Mexican ,Mediterranean and of course a touch of Texas. I recommend the Cubano, Biz Nuts or the Mango Tango burger. Don’t forget your loaded fries! P.S.- They will shuffle truffle for tips.
Dasman –
In case you didn’t know Shawarma is a big deal and its delicious. Dasman can help you get your Shawarma fix along with some other Mediterranean dishes. I unfortunately still have not had the pleasure of finding these guys but I had to add them on here because of all the fuzz people have been making about them. Mark my words “I will find you….. and I will eat your Shawarma”.
Stab It –
Stab It prides themselves on not only serving quality food but they pride themselves on making sure it is as healthy as they can possibly make it. Their grass-fed meats along with their incredible homemade salsas are some of the best I have tasted. The best part is that they grill these skewers right in front of you leaving absolutely nothing to hide.
Mahalo Munchies –
Mahalo offers authentic Hawaiian food with original recipes straight from the beautiful islands of Hawaii along with a a few Polynesian and other Asian style dishes. Their must tries are the Island Burger and the Huli Huli Chicken meal. The Island Burger consist of a hand formed and seasoned all beef patty, a grilled pineapple ring and teriyaki mayo. The Huli Huli Chicken is the Hawaiian favorite made with teriyaki sauce and a pineapple ring as well. They even add in their rice and delicious macaroni salad! This is definitely a worth while experience if you have been craving some Hawaiian authenticity.
Maine-ly Sandwiches– Maine-ly Sandwiches serves authentic home style sandwiches and Lobster rolls from Maine right here in the city of Houston. They have three store locations and have just launched their own food truck. They are definitely a must try if you are a lobster fan. They also have an amazing Lobster Bisque and just started making their own whoopie pies!
We are new but aspire to be on this list very soon!
